A Day of Reading

I've spent my sunday reading.

Reading and playing WordFeud. I regret nothing.

This week, upon having finished The Temple of The Gods by Andy McDermott and liking it, I went for a smaller book, a YA book, something I could read through in a day.

The Name of The Star is my first Maureen Johnson and I loved it. I don't really feel connected to Rory, I just let her lead me around, show me London, tell me the story of Jack the Ripper, her powers and her life. I was a little ansy about her name, Rory because my head jumps to Rory Gilmore of The Gilmore Girls but once I realized they're two very different people, that went away completely.

Rory (how cool is her actual name, Aurora) is ... and this is where I struggled to find the proper words in English to describe her. She plays the damsel in distress a lot of the book, not really plays but she's overly controlled by her emotions but also by her will to keep moving forward, it's this that important to note about Rory because that's what makes her a great character, in my opinion.

Having been to London, albeit, only hung around the major tourist places, I found myself wishing I was back in London. It's such a beautiful city and I miss living in a dorm room. I was spoiled when I attended University in Northampton in 2007. I had a single room, which I think everyone had but I lived in proximity to other exchange students in my hall and we always had the door open (except for when I hadn't cleaned my room) so it felt like I was back with my friends in England.

I'm glad The Name of The Star isn't a stand alone book, I'm glad it's eventually going to be a series and I hope once it returns for the second installment Rory will be the lead again, perhaps even in Bristol. I will however miss Jazza. I just like her name.
